More Wedding Bells!

Whoopee! Another piece of good news to share! One of my nieces who resides in Ozieland has accepted her long-time beau’s proposal so another wedding is in the offing.

Good news certainly come in threes too! Now there are altogether four weddings to look forward to. First there was one, my nephew who will be tying the knot next month. Then the next three announcements that three nieces will be getting married, the last two within a week of one another.

This latest announcement has been long-awaited. I’m very happy on behalf of my late sister that her younger daughter will finally be settling down with the man she has decided to spend the rest of her days with.

Looks like the Year of the Rabbit is a year for romances to culminate at the altar.

More Weddings in the Offing!

Woohoo!! I just received news that my brother's princess will be getting married to her handsome prince in a few months' time.

This year is surely the year for weddings, with the Bunny hopping in and bringing along, hopefully, a year of abundance. To those who may not know, the in-coming Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rabbit.

Next month, one of my nephews is tying the knot with his lady love, then my brother's princess and last but not least, my youngest brother's princess is also getting married too! So three weddings in the Year of the Rabbit!

This is really something to celebrate and with great joy too. The young ones are coming into their own, and we are now the oldies, in our golden years. We can look forward to another new generation of little bunnies and baby dragons ( after the Rabbit comes the Dragon ). If I don't get a little Bunny from my daughter-in-law, I would certainly hope for a little Dragon, God willing.

Besides, these occasions also give the oldies an opportunity to get new clothes to swan in!! Albeit old swans!! He, he, he!! We can look forward to lots of shopping, not only for clothes but also for gifts for the young couples.

The tea ceremony is a very important tradition in a Chinese wedding where the bride or groom, as the case may be, is introduced formally to the family clan. In return for the cup of tea ( usually accepted with joy )the young couple get monetary gifts and jewellery.

For the young couples and their families, it would mean lots of preparation, selecting the venue for the wedding function, the menu, the guest list, wedding favors, seating arrangements, etc etc. It's very exciting indeed. I should know as my son got married recently.

So here we go, looking forward to the happy occasions coming up.

Marriages are made in Heaven

Last night we braved strong winds and a heavy downpour to attend the wedding of my dear old friend's daughter.

Despite the rain, all the guests turned up at the five-star beach resort to honour the newly-wed couple who will be making their home in Ozieland.

I made the acquaintance of the bride when she was nine months old, in the arms of her mother. As she grew older, I had the privilege of being her English language tutor. She later furthered her tertiary education in Melbourne and returned to work in Penang where she met her husband. Indeed, as one of the guests said, " Marriages are made in Heaven" for how could this young couple, staying in different parts of the country separated by the South China Sea end up as husband and wife?

Last night's function saw the attendance of several hundred guests, most of whom were the friends and relatives of her parents. We met quite a number of friends whom we had not seen for a while and it was an enjoyable evening catching up with them.

THe bride's mother cut an elegant figure in her cheongsam
while the bride was radiant in bridal gown. The proud beaming father gave a witty speech which had the guests laughing, making it a truly momentous occasion for the young couple. I took the opportunity of having our photographs taken to mark the occasion.

I also met another lovely young lady, one of my former English language students as well, now a vetinerary surgeon based overseas. She was the bridesmaid. Both bride and bridesmaid are childhood friends.

It gave me great pleasure to see how wonderfully well they've turned out, thanks to their mothers who taught them well and how lovely and gracious they were.

The world is now their oyster and may God continue to bless them. May the newly married couple have a happy and fulfilling marriage, may their union be blessed with the pitter patter of little feet soon, to gladden my dear old friend's heart.
