70 A Significant Number

70 is a significant number in one's life especially to the Chinese community. Three score and ten, a great age to be.  I reached that milestone today.

Unfortunately my grandchildren are not able to be with me today. They had to return to Singapore a day earlier as they had school activities which now have been suspended because of the haze that has shot into the hazardous levels. Going out into the garden to bring in the laundry gives rise to headaches and an itchy throat which then results in a cough.

I woke up to see a lovely bouquet of orchids and many gifts on the dining table. It was such a lovely surprise. My younger daughter flew in a few days ago and my son will arrive this afternoon. Tonight we will celebrate my  birthday with a dinner.

How does it make me feel to wake up on this day?  I thank the good Lord for giving me this day to celebrate with my family. As my late father used to say, everyday you wake up is a bonus so give thanks.

I've received many good wishes from my children, siblings and friends. A big thank you to all of them for remembering.  It feels beautiful to receive flowers and gifts.  The greatest feeling is that of being loved and appreciated. Praise the Lord for His abundant blessings and a loving family, immediate and extended and of course my good old friends who have been with me for many many years.

Give Yourself A Boost

Do you feel comfortable with yourself?  Do you like yourself?  If you do, that’s good for it shows you are a confident person and positive about yourself.

If your answers to the questions above were in the negative, or  you’re not sure of yourself,  these are what you can do to feel good.

Very often we tend to compare ourselves with others and find ourselves lacking.  Take comfort in the fact that no two persons are alike.  We have different God-given talents.

Our good qualities may not be apparent to us but they are clearly perceived by others.  So if you need a boost, ask your friends to write down three good things about you.  Their answers may very well surprise you.

Try not to focus on yourself all the time.  Think of others and how you can help them, how you can make a difference in their lives, no matter how small it may be.  Give praise where it is due.  Rejoice in your friends’ successes.  You’ll be surprised at how good you feel.  Remember, what goes round comes around.
